4 Signs of Blocked Drains You Cannot Ignore

How do you know if your drains are blocked? If you notice that your kitchen sink, laundry tub or shower drains are back flowing or draining slowly, it could be a sign that they’re clogged or perhaps even completely blocked somewhere.

There are several different signs that you want to watch out for blocked drains. If you notice these things happening more and more often, book an appointment with your North Shore blocked drain Plumber as soon as possible.

  1. Overflow or Slow Drains

Overflow or slow drain flow in the kitchen sink or shower can be signs of blocked drains. This could be as simple as a few pieces of hair or trash that have been caught in your pipes, but if left untreated the hairs and wastes can create bigger blockages over time.

When you run water down your drain it should drain quickly and smoothly. If it doesn’t, something might be blocking your pipes.

  1. A Smelly Drain

A smelly drain is another sign that your pipes are in trouble. Often, they smell foul or putrid because they’re backing up with bacteria or other gunk. Water can only travel so far before it backs up, causing an overflowing toilet or sinks full of nasty water.

If you’ve noticed bad smells coming from any drains in your home, you may have a blocked drain somewhere—and if you ignore it for too long, it could lead to more serious problems. If you can smell your drains that you know there’s something in there, it’s time to call a local plumber.

  1. Toilet not Flushing

If your toilet is blocked or not flushing as well as it should be, you may face a partially blocked drain. If the water and waste is not flushing down completely even after a few good plunges, the drain blockage could be quite serious.

Another blockage sign to watch out for is bubbling water in the toilet. If it happens once or twice, it is fine. But if it happens regularly, you best to have the toilet and sewer line checked out. The bubbling toilet water could indicate a blockage somewhere in the sewer line.

  1. Damp Lawn and Sinkholes

If you see your lawn constantly being damp or wet even it hasn’t been raining, it is possible that there is a blocked drain somewhere in your garden or backyard.

The other sign to watch out for is small sinkholes in the front or back yard. If water is not draining properly underneath, mini sinkholes could start to show from time to time. If left untreated, they could cause bigger problems later.

So what causes the blocked drains?

There are a few common reasons for blocked drains, including tree roots damaging the drain pipes, hair or grease build-ups, food residue and sanitary products being flushed down the toilets and more.

If blocked drains are not treated properly early on, they can lead to bigger problems weeks or months later. So our suggestion is that you should contact a local plumber in your area and assess the situation before it gets late.
